Ralph Branca

Former MLB pitcher; threw the pitch that resulted in "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" -- via the New York Daily News. On October 3, 1951, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants were playing the third and deciding game of a three-game playoff for the NL pennant. Branca came on in relief of Don Newcombe with one out, bottom of the ninth. Bobby Thomson pulled Branca's second pitch to left and out, a three-run homer that won the game. "The Giants win the pennant!" is the cry radio play-by-play man Russ Hodges couldn't stop screaming, the most memorable moment in baseball history..

Much controversy and many conflicting claims about whether pitches were tipped have been argued and will be to the end of time. That's baseball.
