Robert Vaughn

Actor, historian, and activist -- via the Hollywood Reporter. Best known for his role as Nepoleon Solo in the TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., He also published one of the first examinations of the Hollywood blacklistings of the 1950s, Only Victims, and he was an outspoken activist against the Vietnam War. His frist, worst, and best film credits all came in four years -- he started as an extra in The Ten Commandments, starred in the ill-wrought Teenage Caveman two years later. Then, in rapid succession he was Oscar-nominated for The Young Philadelphians, and as the haunted gunslinger Lee in The Magnificaent Seven.
