Director -- via the New York Times. He cut his teeth on early TV, and specialized in comedies. Among his best work are the original "The In-Laws," which just received a Criterion release. "The Americanization of Emily," "The Hospital," "Silver Streak," and "Outrageous Fortune" are gems -- others such as "Love Story," "Making Love," and "Man of La Mancha" were awful.
