Fred Hellerman

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist -- via the Connecticut Post. A key influence, and a wonderful entertainer. Fred formed the Weavers with Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, and Ronnie Gilbert in 1948. Their big hits included "Goodnight, Irene" and many more. They were essential to the start of the folk boom, but were blacklisted in 1953 due to their left-wing leanings. History vindicated  them, but it tok a long time. Our mom loved them! I learned "The Frozen Logger" from their record, and sang it to the children at bedtime for years.
