Leo Beranek
Acoustic engineer and designer -- via the New York Times. A vast influence. He wrote two classic texts: "Acoustics" and "Music, Acoustics, and Architecture." A lawsuit he was involved with set a precedent that later served to destroy the AT&T monopoly. He built Arpanet, the first computer-based information network -- the direct precursor of the internet.
