Paul Tanner

Trombonist and inventor of the electrotheremin -- via the L.A. Times. Glenn Miller Orchestra member; the man who played the electrotheremin on Beach Boys' recordings.

  1. Hi, Brad. Paul Tanner was not the last surviving member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, although that was widely reported in the media. Future band leader Ray Anthony (born in 1922) played trumpet for Glenn Miller in 1940 and 1941, and even appears with the orchestra in the film Sun Valley Serenade. There's also double-bass player "Trigger" Alpert (born 1916), who played with Miller around the same time Anthony did. (The original AP obit doesn't mention anything about Tanner having been the last surviving member of Miller's orchestra. That was a detail added for some bizarre reason by CNN.)
