Madeline Arakawa Gins
Architect, poet, and painter -- via the New York Times. Created "Reversible Destiny" housing -- eccentrically and nonintuitively designed in order to keep the inhabitants' senses off-balance, with the professed result of staving off death. Indefinitely. It didn't work, but it sure looks cool!

Dave Madden
Actor -- via USA Today. Best known as the slimy manager Reuben Kincaid on TV's "The Patridge Family" -- however, he was a prominent part of "Laugh-In" before that. I am ashamed to say that I even remember him in the short-lived 1965 sitcom "Camp Runamuck."
Russell Johnson
Actor -- via TMZ. He will be remembered as the beloved Professor on TV's "Gilligan's Island." He worked extensively in television, and in classic B movies in the '50s and '60s.

Freddie "Fingers" Lee aka Frederick John Cheesman
Pianist and songwriter -- via the Northern Echo. He played with Screaming Lord Sutch, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Gene Vincent, among others.
Cliff Carpenter
Actor -- via New York Daily News. He worked on Broadway; he acted on radio for Norwin Corwin, among others, and was one of the Terrys on the radio adaptation of "Terry and the Pirates." His support for blacklisted actor Philip Loeb in 1942 led to his own blacklisting.
Judy Protas
Advertising copywriter -- via the New York Times. One of the best -- she did both the "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's real Jewish rye" and "candy-coated popcorn, peanuts, and a prize" for Crackerjack.
Yes, that is Malcom X. He loved the photo! |

Alexandra Bastedo
Actress -- via the BBC. May be best remembered for her role as Dr. Sharron Macready in the short-lived British sci-fi series "The Champions" (one of my all-time faves!).
Frank Marth
Character actor -- via the Hollywood Reporter. Another often-seen supporting performer -- a solid, dependable artist!
Keiko Awaji
Actress -- via Kyodo News. Best known for her work in Kurosawa's "Stray Dog" and Mrk Robson's "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" -- via the Japan Times.
