Patty Duke

Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress who excelled on stage, screen, and in TV; singer and writer -- via USA Today. AKA Anna Pearce. Originated the role of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker"on Broadway in 1959, and won the Oscar for playing the same role in the film. She went on to success with TV"s "The Patty Duke Show" (1963-1966). She achieved camp glory playing Neely O'Hara in "Valley of the Dolls" in 1967. She went on to do much work in many mediums. As well, she was a major mental health advocate -- she suffered from bipolar disorder.
