Chandler Robbins

Ornithologist and principal author of "Birds of North America" -- via the Washington Post. His early research into the effect of DDT on animal life was used by Rachel Carson for her book "Silent Spring." He created the North American Breeding Bird Survey, the first comprehensive continent-spanning simultaneous tallying and measurement of bird populations -- an incredible feat. With Bertel Bruun and Herbert S. Zim, he created "Birds of North America: A Guide to Field Identification" -- a beautiful and informative text perfectly suited to use in the wild and at home. It charmed many a rainy afternoon for the curious nature-lover!
