Steve Ditko

Renowned comics artist; best known for his co-creation of Spider-Man and Dr. Strange -- via Bleeding Cool. It has taken me some time to come to grips with Ditko's death, as he influenced my imagination more profoundly than many other artists. I was born in 1960, at the perfect time for a young comic-book fan -- the Fantastic Four came along a month after my birth, and Marvel heroes exploded into being all through the decade. Ditko's taut, eloquent style was perfect for superhero comics, and I grew up with those images in my head. Dr. Strange was my favorite (OK, after Captain America) and Ditko's surreal visionary style blew my young mind and revealed the limitless visual potentialities of the comic panel.
