Sylvan Barnet
Shakespeare scholar, and editor -- via the New York Times. He was the guiding force behind the Signet Classic Shakespeares, so essential to getting the Bard in people's hands. I alwsys wondered who the hell Sylvan Barnet was; now I know. Thank you, sir!
Richard G. Hendrickson
The most dedicated volunteer weatherman in American history -- via the Washington Post. He started on July 1, 1930, and continued until last year.
Alan Rickman
A great actor in film, on stage and TV -- via the Guardian. Gifted with intensity, he made a career of playing baddies such as Snape in the Harry Potter movies, Gruber in "Die Hard," and the Sheriff of Nottingham in the otherwise woeful Costner "Robin Hood." He could do much more, and did in films such as "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and "Galaxy Quest."
