William Goldman
Oscar-winning screenwriter ('Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,' 'All the President's Men'), and novelist, playwright, script doctor, journalist, and memoirist -- via Variety. He wrote the masterful, funny fantasy novel The Princess Bride in 1973; in 1987, he adapted his own novel for the screen, creating a beloved classic.
